Manatt’s Benjamin Shatz, co-chair of the firm’s appellate practice, was interviewed by the Daily Journal for an article on outgoing governor Jerry Brown’s pick for the California Supreme Court.

With Brown’s recent nomination of his legal affairs aide, Joshua Groban, to the state’s Supreme Court, the publication examined his confirmation process, noting that Groban was once referred, but not nominated, to the State Bar’s Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation.

“Plenty of people thought that was just a setup for a possible Supreme Court appointment, and that’s what happened,” said Shatz.
