Manatt Achieves Highest Ever Firm Ranking on Am Law Pro Bono Scorecard

The American Lawyer's 2019 National Pro Bono Rankings
– The American Lawyer

In The American Lawyer’s annual Pro Bono Scorecard, Manatt ranked 23rd among the Am Law 200. This marks the firm’s highest-ever ranking on the scorecard, improving six spots from our #29 ranking in 2018. This comprehensive list ranks firms based on the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer and the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono works.

In addition to the firm’s successful overall ranking, Manatt’s average hours per lawyer was ranked #33, up from #37 in 2018.  Manatt’s breadth of commitment, which measures the percentage of lawyers who contributed 20 or more hours, the firm ranked #11 -- up from #19 in 2018.

The publication pointed to Manatt’s successful lawsuit against Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross’ efforts to place a citizenship question on the 2020 U.S. Census on behalf of the city of San Jose and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration.  A district judge ruled that the question’s addition was both unlawful and unconstitutional, and the case is now awaiting a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court.
