Manatt Continues Boston Growth With Technology Litigation Partner

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced today that Christopher Lisy has joined as a disputes partner in its Boston office. With nearly two decades of litigation and trial experience in the technology and financial services sectors, Lisy brings a highly diverse and sophisticated skill set to the firm’s expanding digital and technology group as well as its privacy and data security offerings.

Manatt launched its Boston office this past summer with the arrival of Scott Lashway, who co-leads the firm’s privacy and data security practice with CEO and Managing Partner Donna Wilson. Since then, the firm has been strategically growing its Boston team to serve its strong client base in the region and nationally, which includes healthcare, financial services, technology, education, real estate, environment and entertainment. In joining recent privacy and data security associate hire Mara O’Malley, Lisy further strengthens the office’s capabilities to handle fast-paced, complex issues and disputes, including jury trials. He also joins seasoned Los Angeles healthcare litigator Charles Weir, whose move to Manatt was announced just last week.

“Chris is an extremely talented litigator and business counselor with a demonstrated record of success in his clients’ most critical matters,” said Lashway. “He is a valuable addition to both our privacy and data security practice as well as our broader litigation and digital and technology teams as a whole.”

Lisy represents some of the largest global financial services, insurance and reinsurance firms — along with their senior leaders, officers and directors — in investigations and disputes including class actions and shareholder derivative proceedings for securities fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. In the technology industry, he regularly litigates noncompetition and confidentiality agreements in Massachusetts state courts and federal courts. These matters include work related to proprietary computer source code and open source code, 3D gaming, and commercial software products in the storage, database, replication and planning and scheduling areas. Lisy has won several notable jury trials in recent years for clients in these industries, including in some of their largest “bet the company” cases.

“Our litigation team is growing across the country, with Charles Weir most recently joining in Los Angeles, so we’re thrilled to welcome Chris,” said Wilson. “His sophisticated experience and trial practice will benefit our clients in Boston, in New England and nationally.”

“I’m excited to join Manatt and continue to build the Boston office,” said Lisy. “With its integrated legal and consulting model and focus on the technology, healthcare and financial services sectors, Manatt is perfectly positioned to provide guidance to clients on the challenging issues they are facing in the new economy.”

Lisy earned his bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College and his juris doctorate from American University Washington College of Law (with honors).
