Position Overview: Manatt Health is seeking a highly qualified consultant with experience conducting quantitative analyses using Medicaid, Medicare and other claims data that is also interested in and capable of supporting non-analytic healthcare consulting engagements. The successful candidate will have knowledge of Medicaid and policy and hands-on expertise with Medicaid claims data, ideally including T-MSIS Analytic Files (TAF), Medicare claims data, or state-specific administrative claims datasets. The candidate will support Medicaid, Medicare, and life sciences data analytic use cases to support client information needs. The candidate will also be expected to provide project management, research, deck development, and solutioning support on non-analytic projects across the practice, including, for example, on projects related to: payment and delivery system transformation; health system and academic medical center strategy; Medicaid policy, redesign and innovation; Medicare policy and strategy; and life sciences market access, coverage and reimbursement strategies.  This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the growth of a high-impact analytics team within our nationally recognized healthcare practice. 

Responsibilities:

  •  Conduct analyses, primarily focused on Medicaid (TAF) and Medicare claims data, in support of Medicaid, Medicare policy, health system, and life sciences business and research questions.

  •  Identify appropriate methods and datasets that can be used to investigate policy, business, and research questions from clients, with attention to scope, time, and budget

  •  Define analytical questions, interpret results, and translate findings into client-facing deliverables.

  •  Conduct basic statistical analyses, including development of regression models, in SAS and through use of Excel-based modeling.

  •  Write and review SAS / SQL code to analyze large-scale datasets.

  •  Support data and analytic quality assurance practices.

  •  Communicate methods and results from complex data analyses in lay terms to diverse audiences, including through the design and presentation of compelling visualizations.

  •  Manage data acquisition and data use agreements as needed.

  •  Support client teams in data-driven problem-solving and strategy development, serving as a detail-oriented, team player, to develop and deliver timely and reliable client products.

  •  Apply critical thinking, communication, and project management skills to complex healthcare issues across a variety of projects and project topic areas.

  •  Develop and deliver organized, substantive and visually compelling presentations that synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences, including at the executive level. 

  •  Provide significant contributions to project work streams from start through execution, including developing project work plans, managing milestones and due dates, effectively communicating project status with clients and internal teams, anticipating and addressing client needs, identifying and addressing issues, and managing deliverables. 

Qualifications:

  •  Master’s degree in public policy, health economics, applied economics, public health, business administration, biostatistics, or a related field.

  •  Experience working with Medicaid or Medicare claims data is a prerequisite for this position; experience working within the CMS Virtual Research Data Center (VRDC) desired, though not required.

  •  Two years or more of experience programming in SAS / SQL to analyze comprehensive Medicaid or Medicare claims datasets, ideally within a consulting firm, government agency, research firm or think tank, health system, or health plan.

  •  Demonstrated ability to contribute to fast-paced deliverables and communicate insights effectively through written and visual materials.

  •  Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  •  Background in American health care policy, with a Medicaid policy background highly desired.

  •  Collaborative mindset and ability to adapt across project types and teams.

  •  Strong computer skills, including professional-level proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  •  Outstanding problem-solving, organizational, communication, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills in a variety of settings and media.

  •  Experience managing data use agreements or supporting project workflows is preferred.

  •  Relevant internships and/or lived experience, with a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for business strategy and marketplace issues, health equity, and other health care trends is preferred

Compensation is based on years of relevant experience and advanced degrees $130,000 - $170,000.
