Dutton Quoted in Law360 About Repeal of Guidance for Health-Related Social Needs

Manatt Health Partner  was quoted in a Law360 article discussing how the new administration’s recent decision to rescind federal guidance on health-related social needs may impact the health care industry and what it signals about it’s approach to the Medicaid program.

According to the Dutton, the repeal of guidance that encouraged states to address social needs may indicate that the new administration aims to set its own priorities concerning nonmedical determinants of health. For example, in the president’s previous term, the administration funded Medicaid with millions of dollars for a North Carolina program which offered healthy food boxes and nonmedical aid, resulting in reduced Medicaid spending over time. “A growing body of evidence over a decade shows that investing in nonmedical [determinants of health] has a strong return on investment, leading to better health outcomes while simultaneously reducing health care costs,” Dutton said.
