Rams' New Home Field Eliminates Home Court Advantage

Football franchises, like any other business in the U.S., are free to move where they like. The NFL purports to encourage loyalty to the cities where it is currently doing business at any given time, but the many franchise moves in history-usually motivated by economics-call that encouragement into doubt.

Regardless, however, of the freedom to do business where an owner wants, there is no freedom to break promises and make fraudulent statements without paying a price. Such misconduct is exactly what is alleged in two recent putative class action lawsuits brought in St. Louis against the formerly St. Louis Rams. These lawsuits may add a significant cost to the move to Los Angeles, a cost which, ironically, would probably be borne by the ticket purchasers of Los Angeles.
