Manatt Energy and Environment Partner David Smith wrote an article for Law360 about the impact that California’s recently passed laws mandating corporate climate disclosures may have on companies doing business in the state and beyond.

Smith highlighted the types of entities affected by the adopted and forthcoming rules and described factors to consider when deciding how much or what details they disclose. He emphasized the importance of creating a comprehensive assessment and management system to track, analyze and report sources of emissions as well as the value of leveraging data to quantify and report emissions.

Smith concluded by offering steps for companies to determine their positioning and status for emissions. “Industries, technologies and climate-related regulatory mandates are evolving as never before, and strategies and objectives must be continually evaluated and adjusted accordingly,” he wrote.
