Manatt's Mandana Massoumi, a partner in the firm's Employment and Labor practice, has been named to the Daily Journal's Top Labor & Employment list, which profiles California's leading lawyers in the field. The list was published in a special supplement on July 16, 2014.
In its profile of Massoumi, whose specialties include wage and hour class actions and complex employment defense, the Daily Journal highlights her work defending national retail chains such as Target and El Pollo Loco against employees who file class actions and individual complex claims. When Target faced its first employee suit in Hawaii, a disability discrimination case in federal district court over claims by a worker granted time off after an injury and failed to return to work, Massoumi's summary judgment persuaded the judge to dismiss all key claims but one, limiting the plaintiff's potential recovery.
"I am most effective if I can assist as a business partner, not just as a lawyer, particularly when it comes to preventive strategies related to complicated aspects of California's wage and hour laws and leave regulations," said Massoumi. "The key wins are the cases that never get filed."
