Manatt Entertainment Partner Monika Tashman moderated a panel session titled, “Where’s My Exit? The How, What, When, Where and Why of Exit and Succession Planning for Indie Music Companies,” and spoke on two panel sessions titled, “Allyship for Women & POC in Music Tech Roundtables & Networking” and “Catalog Sales: New Kids on the Block Meet Old Kids on the Block,” at Music Biz 2023, powered by the Music Business Association in Nashville, Tennessee on May 15, May 17 and May 18, 2023.

The Music Biz Conference has been the point of origin for inspiration and collaboration in the music business for more than six decades. In collaboration with Women in Music, the panel “Where’s My Exit? The How, What, When, Where and Why of Exit and Succession Planning for Indie Music Companies” discussed different options and considerations around company exit and succession planning, exploring the five critical questions a company’s founder needs to answer for themselves: how, what, when, where and why.

The “Allyship for Women & POC in Music Tech Roundtables & Networking” session hosted an inclusive and collaborative discussion focused on navigating the music industry. During the panel, attendees had the chance to connect with fellow peers in music and music tech to share experiences, key learning, challenges and obstacles as women, POCs and allies helping to lead the future of music.

The “Catalog Sales: New Kids on the Block Meet Old Kids on the Block” panel explored the industry dynamics at play in the robust market of music catalog sales, ranging from seller and buyer perspectives to consumer behavior to big data, catalog valuation, impact of rising interest rates, investor accountability, legal issues and the long term impact of third-party investment in music rights and royalties on the industry.
