CA Supreme Court Models Policies After Federal Court

State High Court Continues Move to Federal Model in Clerk Hiring
– Daily Journal

The Daily Journal quoted Manatt’s Ben Shatz, co-chair of the firm’s appellate practice, for an article about the California Supreme Court’s new policies and procedures that bear similarities to those commonly associated with federal courts.

“There is no question that Justice Liu and the other Brown appointees have seen how federal courts operate, seen how federal chambers work and have imported some of that,” said Shatz. “They are nice innovations.”

He also noted that livestreams, the first of which was broadcast from San Francisco in May 2016, are part of an ongoing effort by Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye to make the state Supreme Court more accessible and transparent.
