Executive Orders Bring New Urgency to Senate ACA Negotiations

Trump Executive Actions Make Short-Term ACA Deal Likely
– Law360

Manatt’s Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a managing director with Manatt Health, was quoted by Law360 in an article that examined how new executive actions make a short-term Affordable Care Act deal more likely.

According to the publication, recent executive orders will likely drive up premiums nationwide and push insurers out of the ACA market exchanges. Brooks-LaSure told Law360 that the loosening of regulation on policies, coupled with the decision to end the cost-sharing reduction payments, has brought new urgency to Senate negotiations.

“There definitely were some issues and instability that [the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee] was looking to fix,” Brooks-LaSure said. “In the last 24 hours, it has become clear that we are going to have some real immediate short-term effects on consumers and to some extent on health plans.”
