The FBI Conducted a Predawn Raid of Paul Manafort’s Home as Part of Its Russia Probe

Business Insider quoted Manatt’s Kenneth Julian, co-chair of the firm’s corporate investigations and white collar practice, in an article that examined the FBI’s raid of Paul Manafort’s home.

According to the publication, FBI agents working with special counsel Robert Mueller raided the former Trump campaign chairman’s home as part of the FBI’s ongoing investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Manafort had been cooperating with investigators, and the FBI obtained a search warrant in July.

“The only reason to do a search warrant on a target who is ostensibly cooperating with the investigation is a lack of trust,” said Julian, who served for more than 11 years as a federal prosecutor in the Central and Eastern Districts of California. “In order to get a search warrant, FBI agents had to swear to their belief that fruits of a crime would be found in Manafort’s home.”
