ACA Stabilization Measures: Off the Spending Omnibus?

Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, was quoted by MedPageToday for an article on Affordable Care Act (ACA) stabilization measures.

Provisions aimed to lower ACA premiums and give insurers firmer footing, the publication noted, have been excluded from the omnibus spending bill.

“While Congress continues to debate whether or not to include a reinsurance proposal in the omnibus, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is set to follow Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in signing a state-based reinsurance program,” said Ario.

Three other states have already had reinsurance waivers approved in 2018, Ario noted.

“Regardless of what Congress does, it will still take state initiative to start the process, and time is running short to act for 2019,” he stated.
