Recycling World quoted Manatt’s Chuck White, a senior advisor in the firm’s environment practice, in an article on how China’s new import policies are affecting California recycling.

The publication noted that China recently closed its doors to imports involving mixed paper and old corrugated cardboard, which was a major topic of conversation during CalRecycle’s public meeting in January. CalRecycle outlined the potential impact of China’s restrictions on export tonnage, which could result in increased waste in California landfills.

“These papers and plastics are a tremendously valuable feedstock for producing these low-carbon fuel standards,” explained White, indicating that China’s new ban could pave the way for new technologies in the California recycling landscape.
