Manatt’s Bruce Gyory, a senior advisor in the firm’s government and regulatory practice, was interviewed on Spectrum News to discuss Cynthia Nixon’s bid for New York governor.

“When you track who actually votes in Democratic primaries, the progressive vote is highest when the turnout is lower,” said Gyory, when asked about Nixon’s optimal chances for winning the election. “When the turnout rises, it tends to rise from two places—white Catholic voters from the suburbs, and upstate and minority voters both in New York City and in the urban areas outside of the city. Those are voters who have rarely voted for a pure progressive.”
