SCOTUS Decision Paves Way for Regulated Sports Betting

Law Against Sports Bets Stricken
– Daily Journal

Manatt’s Robert Jacobs, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment, sports and media litigation practice, was interviewed by the Daily Journal for an article on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that cleared a path for states to introduce regulated sports betting.

Jacobs explained that the number of states moving forward, the tremendous financial potential at stake, and the complexity of the infrastructure and regulatory framework issues that the states will be wrangling with creates “a potential bonanza” for attorneys nearly across the board.

“Similar to the advent of marijuana legalization, there are going to be certain parameters under which businesses can operate. They can’t be too close to schools, they can’t be here, they can’t be there,” Jacobs said.
