Governor Cuomo Rethinks Job Creation, Economy in New York After Amazon Fallout

Should New York re-think its economic development approach?
– City & State New York

Manatt’s Bruce Gyory, a senior advisor in the government and regulatory practice, spoke to City & State New York about Governor Andrew Cuomo and his approach to job creation and economic development.

When asked whether New York “needs to overhaul its economic development strategy,” Gyory said the state will need to “continually adjust its tactics to what works, whether that adjustment is called fine tuning or an overhaul.”

He also commented on Amazon’s recent decision to cancel its plans for a New York headquarters, and gave some ideas on how the state can attract similar companies in the future: “pick carefully the location in terms of receptivity,” “proponents have to really engage the community,” and “the proponents of a project must have hard fact-based answers so that misconceptions don’t dig into the public’s consciousness.”
