Straw Quoted in InsideHealthPolicy on the Family Glitch Rule

CMS Updates QHP Applications; Holds Glitch Fix Forums
– InsideHealthPolicy

Manatt Health Senior Advisor Tara Straw spoke with InsideHealthPolicy about how CMS is implementing and informing consumers about the new Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage opportunities after the administration finalized a rule fixing the “family glitch.”

The article explained how this new rule addresses the Obama-era rule, which blocked families from getting subsidized ACA coverage under certain circumstances. As such, CMS is advising all consumers to check their Marketplace eligibility on or their State-based Marketplace.

As families consider this new opportunity, Straw notes that, “It is particularly critical that families who are eligible for the subsidized ACA coverage understand any potential trade-offs that come with splitting their coverage between the employer and individual markets. Consumers need to fully grasp the overall costs of all plans, including the premiums, deductibles and cost-sharing maximums.”
