Seigel Quoted in STAT on AI Regulations in Health Care

As regulators play catch up with AI, tech startups say uncertainty is slowing them down
– STAT

Manatt Health Partner Randi Seigel was quoted in a STAT article about how regulatory uncertainty regarding artificial intelligence (AI) tools is impacting tech startups. As many AI founders and investors jockey for a share of the $4 trillion U.S. health care market, many say they are unable to keep up with the industry’s speed, forcing them to build more slowly and meticulously as they try to predict how federal agencies may attempt to tackle issues.

Today, the technology is governed by a “patchwork of historical privacy and security data laws that touch on AI,” Seigel said. “There’s confusion, because there is no crystal clear guidance, and agencies are putting out slightly different guidance, binding or not binding.”
