Boozang and Montz Quoted in Axios on Possible Health Care Coverage Losses with OBBBA
Manatt Health Senior Managing Director and Managing Director were quoted in Axios in an article about the potential health care coverage losses nearly 12 million Americans would face with the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).
“We are going back to a place of a lot of uncompensated care and a lot of patchwork systems for people to get care,” Montz said. She also added that changes to Affordable Care Act markets in the bill, along with enhanced premium subsidies expiring imminently, may cause healthier people to drop out, resulting in a skewed risk pool and increased premiums for remaining enrollees.
Montz also said the bill takes focus off ways to improve the health system. “This is taking us catastrophically backward, where we don't get to think about the things that we should be thinking about how to best keep people healthy,” she said.
The bill comes amid Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s focus on preventive care and ending chronic illness, but Boozang said coverage unlocks access health care in the U.S.’s insurance-based system, saying removing access to health coverage “seems inconsistent with the goal of making America healthier.”
