Polaris Quoted in New York Times on CMS Sharing Medicaid Data with Immigration Enforcement

Manatt Health Partner was quoted in the New York Times discussing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sharing data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that could be used to identify and locate immigrants who received health care services. A group of states has sued the federal government seeking to stop this data sharing.

Polaris explained that the use of Medicaid data for generalized immigration enforcement is an unprecedented step. “For decades, the line that C.M.S. has given to the public — and that C.M.S. has instructed states to give to the public — is that Medicaid program data will be used and disclosed solely for the purpose of program administration,” Polaris said.
