Reilly Provides Testimony Supporting Advancement of California Privacy Amendment S.B. 690

On July 1, Manatt Privacy and Data Security Partner  testified at a California Assembly Public Safety Committee hearing on the advancement of S.B. 690, a bill sponsored by Senator Anna Caballero (D-Merced) aimed at amending the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA).

Reilly provided testimony in support of the privacy amendment, which focuses on protecting businesses from abusive lawsuits under CIPA by affirming the existing protections of the California Consumer Privacy Act. The bill successfully advanced through the committee with the understanding that it will be postponed until 2026 to ensure the legislation appropriately addresses harmful lawsuits while preserving strong consumer protections.
