Augenstein Quoted in InsideHealthPolicy on State Regulations for Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health Care

Manatt Health Senior Managing Director offered insights for InsideHealthPolicy on how state lawmakers are prioritizing artificial intelligence (AI) regulation in mental health care and transparency requirements for 2026.

The article reported that states are moving away from broad AI frameworks and instead advancing more tailored policies focused on mental health applications, patient disclosure requirements and AI regulatory sandboxes. Augenstein spoke on AI sandboxes, which allow AI developers to test products without having to adhere to certain regulations, noting that several states have already passed their own bills. “I think we will see a lot more states introduce sandbox legislation next year,” Augenstein said.
