Manatt Announces Expansion of Healthcare Practice

Manatt announced today the expansion of its national healthcare practice with the additions of Keith R. Anderson and Linda S. Moroney and Shannon Lorbiecki to the firm’s Chicago office. Anderson and Moroney — highly respected healthcare transactional, tax and regulatory attorneys — join as partners from Drinker Biddle, and Lorbiecki joins from Navigant as a director in the firm’s multidisciplinary healthcare practice, Manatt Health.

Manatt Health’s unique platform integrates lawyers and consultants to provide legal, policy, analytics and strategic business services to businesses and organizations in the transforming healthcare industry. With the additions of Anderson, Moroney and Lorbiecki, Manatt Health is accelerating the expansion of its national and Midwestern presence and its ability to continue to lead in providing sophisticated professional services to clients navigating the rapidly consolidating healthcare industry.

Anderson and Moroney bring wide-ranging experience advising health systems, hospitals, academic medical centers, medical groups and healthcare providers in both the for-profit and nonprofit spheres on the business and legal aspects of strategic transactions. Lorbiecki, who has more than 20 years’ experience in healthcare leadership and consulting, assists a wide range of healthcare organizations and universities with business planning initiatives, including formation of clinically integrated networks, clinical service line growth plans, and physician integration and alignment strategies.

“We are excited about Keith, Linda and Shannon joining us,” said William Bernstein, chair of Manatt Health. “They are top-tier healthcare professionals with deep client relationships and extensive industry knowledge who will become key leaders in growing our premier national healthcare practice. The Manatt Health team is now over 160 strong, providing legal, strategic consulting, policy and analytics services to the healthcare industry.”

“What Manatt has built is a different approach to providing professional services, which gives clients the value they are looking for — an ability to understand how policy and business market forces are evolving,” said Anderson. “The combination of attorneys and consultants helps clients really think about their strategic paths forward, including new approaches to transactions and affiliations.”

“I’m looking forward to expanding Manatt’s footprint in Chicago and building on its growth throughout the country,” said Moroney. “The Manatt Health team shares knowledge across regions and practice disciplines to ensure its clients can stay ahead of economic forces driving changes in the healthcare market.”

“The healthcare industry is undergoing massive change, and clients need a broad perspective to stay ahead of market trends,” said Lorbiecki. “I’m excited to join the multidisciplinary team at Manatt Health, and impressed by both the depth and breadth of the services it provides to clients throughout the United States.

“Manatt is creating a national professional services firm that is keenly focused on specific industry sectors and practice areas,” said William Quicksilver, CEO and managing partner of Manatt. “Our Chicago office is already home to a successful financial services practice, and the addition of Keith, Linda and Shannon to the team deepens our capabilities in the Midwest to serve clients nationwide on complex strategic healthcare transactions.”

Over the past few years, Manatt has dramatically deepened its team. New talent includes:

  • Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a former top official at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services responsible for implementing the Affordable Care Act.
  • Dr. Ben Chu, an expert on integrated health systems who served as executive vice president for Kaiser Foundation and Health Plan Inc. and as group president of Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California and Georgia regions.
  • Richard Hartunian, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York.
  • Cindy Mann, former deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
