Implementing the ONC Information Blocking Rule

A New Manatt Webinar Series Guides You Through the Complexities of Putting the Information Blocking Rule Into Action.

In March, the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) issued a final rule implementing the information blocking prohibition in the 21st Century Cures Act. “Information blocking” refers to activities that unreasonably limit the availability and use of electronic health information (EHI), undermining public and private investments in the nation’s health IT infrastructure and frustrating efforts to use technology to improve healthcare quality and efficiency.

The final rule goes into effect this fall and will impose significant compliance obligations on healthcare stakeholders, including providers, health information technology (HIT) vendors and health information exchanges (HIEs). Noncompliance could trigger serious consequences. For example, HIEs are subject to penalties of up to $1 million for lack of interoperability.

How can you be sure your organization is prepared and compliant when the new rule takes effect? Find out at a new Manatt webinar series, presented in two sector-specific segments, so we can focus on the requirements and obligations of each stakeholder group. Register below for the session that’s right for your organization:

  • Implementing the ONC Information Blocking Rule: What HIEs and HIT Vendors Need to Know
  • Implementing the ONC Information Blocking Rule: What Providers Need to Know

During the sessions, Manatt will explain the key provisions of the rule and answer critical questions, including:

  • Who will be impacted by the rule, and how?
  • What practices implicate the prohibition on information blocking?
  • What are the exceptions to the prohibition, and what issues do those exceptions present?
  • What must healthcare industry stakeholders do now to get their organizations compliant with these new requirements?

Even if you can’t make our original airings on September 30 and October 6, register free now and receive a link to view the segment of your choice on demand.
