Bio

Mark Wietecha

Mark Wietecha is among the nation’s most experienced consultants advising children’s hospitals and academic medicine through his 40-year career specializing in the strategy and performance of these organizations. He draws on his in-depth experience as both a senior consultant and former CEO of the Children’s Hospital Association of the United States (CHA), to bring insight and creativity to client needs on topics of strategy, governance, and affiliation.   

Prior to his 12-year tenure leading CHA, Mark was a consultant at Kurt Salmon, a global management and strategy consulting firm now part of Accenture. Over his 27-year career with Kurt Salmon, he was recognized with increasing levels of responsibility, ultimately serving as global Chairman of the Firm. Mark specialized in advising academic medical centers and children’s hospitals, focusing on the strategy, governance, and relationships between the clinical, educational, and research missions.  

Mark serves as a long-time trusted advisor to senior leaders within the top U.S. children’s hospitals including Boston Children’s, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and Texas Children’s. He has also been an active advisor on a global basis, engaging with the leadership of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, SickKids in Toronto, SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Fudan in Shanghai. Mark is past global Secretary and an active member of CHIEF, the Children's Hospitals International Executive Forum, a CEO collective representing the world’s premier children’s hospitals collaborating to advance the pediatric academic mission for children and families.  

Mark has a career interest in academic medicine. He served on the Board of the Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Teaching Hospitals (AAMC COTH) for over 10 years, and is a past Chair of the Board of Overseers of UCLA Health in Los Angeles. He holds a Master of Science from The Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University. Mark is based in Washington, D.C.
