Calculating How Much Creators and Rights Holders Make in the United States

The latest update to our Music Streaming Royalty Calculator features an additional variable that allows creators to more accurately calculate their specific share of total royalties based on their contribution to a particular musical recording or composition. This iteration of the calculator still leverages detailed data from direct source payors to deliver more precise, up-to-date and readily accessible streaming revenue information, making Manatt’s calculator the most sophisticated tool of its kind on the market.

*Starting with the March 2024 period, Spotify is reporting 98% of subscriptions as “bundles” where only 52% of subscription revenue is attributed to music for purposes of mechanical royalty payments. The amount that “stays with Spotify” reported above is an estimate based on a non-reduced service revenue figure (i.e. our estimate of Spotify service revenue prior to the 48% “bundling” reduction)

**The combined sound recording, mechanical, and performance royalty pools for Amazon Music exceed the reported service revenue.

Rates are updated monthly and correspond to play-activity of three months prior (i.e. calculations in May reflect the rates applicable to January usage).
