Reilly Quoted in Bloomberg Law on California’s New Privacy and AI Rule Proposals

Manatt Privacy and Data Security Partner was quoted in Bloomberg Law on the California Privacy Protection Agency’s recent draft rules limiting the consumer data that advertisers may use for behavioral ads, including the rules’ novel implications for current uses of first-party data that does not involve any third party sharing.

He explained that this action reflects a shift from scrutinizing the sharing of data to scrutinizing the use of data for profiling, adding that the proposed rules appear to signify a shift in value judgement that using first-party personal information to profile a consumer is now considered relatively more privacy invasive and in need of increased regulation.
