The 'Abundance Agenda' and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Manatt Government and Regulatory National Advisor wrote an article for Daily Journal discussing how California can leverage mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to streamline environmental, land use and permitting disputes as it seeks to implement its “abundance agenda”.
The “abundance agenda”, California’s initiative aimed at meeting the state's decarbonization and public welfare goals, demands investments in renewable energy, grid modernization, water infrastructure, health care and transportation mobility. Through the use of ADR, parties could save millions in litigation fees and costs, Steinberg explained, while removing bottlenecks and advancing California’s goal of building the affordable, green economy it’s striving for.
“ADR and mediation are important tools to resolve our state's thorny environmental and land use permitting disputes - and to advance an ‘abundance agenda’ for a greener, more affordable California. The right mediator with the right strategies can help,” Steinberg wrote.
