Senior litigator Megan Thibert-Ind further enhances firm’s industry-leading, integrated legal and consulting model, bringing significant experience to Midwest and national health care and other clients
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced today that health care and civil litigation Partner Megan Thibert-Ind has joined Manatt in the firm’s Chicago office. Thibert-Ind has extensive experience representing businesses across Manatt’s industry sectors, including a focus on health care stakeholders—such as hospital systems and academic medical centers, ambulatory surgery and urgent care centers, pharmacy services providers, and life sciences companies—as they navigate a variety of complex business controversies, contractual and regulatory disputes, and post-acquisition challenges.
“Megan’s business-centric mindset and ability to deftly handle sophisticated litigation matters for a variety of clients align with not just our broader Manatt Health and litigation teams, but also with those in our rapidly growing Chicago office,” said Donna L. Wilson, Manatt’s CEO and Managing Partner. “We have expanded our presence in Chicago in recent months throughout the financial services, antitrust and litigation arenas—as seen through the arrivals of former CFPB regulator Bryan A. Schneider and antitrust and litigation Partner Stephen D. Libowsky—and are now thrilled to add Megan to our already deep health care and civil litigation teams in that office.”
In particular, Thibert-Ind works with clients across the gamut of health care matters, from counseling companies investing in or acquiring entities in the health care space to advocating on behalf of hospitals and other providers in litigation related to practice management and shareholder disputes. She also advises pharmaceutical companies on 340B Drug Pricing Program reimbursement and indemnification claims and provides guidance to life sciences companies facing product liability exposure.
“Megan’s unparalleled litigation experience in addition to her work on bankruptcies and adversary proceedings, contractual claims, and acquisition-related suits will be invaluable to our provider clients and other health care organizations facing transactional, litigation and regulatory challenges,” said Bill Bernstein, leader of Manatt Health. “Her background working on these diverse matters complements our integrated Manatt Health legal and consulting offerings in Chicago and throughout the country.”
Thibert-Ind also represents clients in litigation pending in state and federal courts nationwide and has handled numerous matters before the American Arbitration Association and other alternative dispute resolution tribunals. Additionally, Thibert-Ind regularly navigates complex expert witness issues, including financial analysis, lost profits and damages, and causation and other liability issues.
Alongside her litigation work, Thibert-Ind is noted for her service as an active member of the Chicago community and is dedicated to providing pro bono services across a range of subject matters. She has represented undocumented immigrants; victims of gender-based hate crimes, domestic violence and employment discrimination; not-for-profit arts organizations; and parents wrongfully indicated for abuse. She also serves on the board of directors of Legal Aid Chicago, the largest nonprofit civil legal services provider in Cook County.
“As Manatt continues to strategically expand its Chicago office, we could not be more excited to welcome Megan,” said Partner Linda Moroney, head of Manatt’s Chicago office. “Her exceptional work on behalf of clients and deep ties within the community make her a perfect addition to our team.”
“I am so excited about tapping into Manatt’s national trial-ready litigation platform and its innovative approach to helping clients address some of the most complex and unique health care issues from a legal, consulting and policy point of view,” said Thibert-Ind. “I look forward to continuing to grow my practice by collaborating with my new colleagues who hail from all corners of the health care and life sciences sectors.”
In addition to the recent Chicago-based growth Manatt has experienced through the arrivals of Schneider and Libowsky, the firm has been strategically expanding its roster of legal and business consulting professionals across its offices firmwide, both in health care and throughout other practice areas. Recent arrivals include former New York State Department of Health Director Tracy F. Raleigh; former CEO and COO of New York Health + Hospitals/Harlem Eboné M. Carrington; former Massachusetts prosecutor Karin M. Bell; accomplished New York real estate Partner Ted Hunter; nationally recognized trial attorney Naeun Rim; D.C.-based health care professionals Linda Elam and Blair M. Cantfil; Manatt Digital and Technology Partners Thomas W. Michael and Rustin M. Brown in LA and D.C., respectively; and President Emeritus of the Association of American Medical Colleges Dr. Darrell G. Kirch.
Thibert-Ind received her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of North Dakota. She also studied comparative law at the University of Queensland School of Law in Brisbane, Australia.
