Manatt Advances 19 Legal and Consulting Professionals Across Practices Nationwide

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced today the advancement of 19 professionals, effective January 1, 2023—nine attorneys to equity partnership, one consultant to senior managing director, four attorneys to partnership, four consultants to managing directors and one attorney to counsel. These elevations illustrate the power of Manatt’s legal and consulting platform, which provides corporate, transactional, litigation, business consulting and regulatory offerings to clients across the emerging companies and venture funds, real estate, advertising/marketing, energy/environmental, digital and technology, media and entertainment, health care, life sciences, financial services and government contracting sectors.

The following professionals have been elected as equity partners or senior managing directors of the Firm:

  • Jesse Brody – Equity Partner / Manatt Cross-Industry Group: Advertising, Marketing and Media / Los Angeles
    Brody’s practice includes ensuring legal compliance for companies in the technology, entertainment, advertising, retail, financial services, automotive and consumer products industries. He is primarily focused on advertising and marketing, privacy, e-commerce, and intellectual property matters. Brody received his J.D. from Loyola Law School.
  • Jocelyn Guyer – Senior Managing Director / Manatt Health / Washington, D.C.
    Guyer provides policy analysis, strategic advice and technical support to states, foundations and a range of other clients on delivery system reform, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, with a particular focus in recent years on behavioral health issues. She received her M.P.A. in economics and public policy from Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
  • Anne O’Hagen Karl – Equity Partner / Manatt Health / New York
    Karl works with states, plans and providers in understanding and implementing the Affordable Care Act and payment and delivery system reform, as well as a broad range of regulatory and transactional matters. She advises clients on various Medicaid issues, with particular experience in matters related to Medicaid payment, including supplemental payments and value-based purchasing programs, and Medicaid financing, including provider assessments and provider donations. Karl received her J.D. from Yale Law School and served as a law clerk to the Honorable José A. Cabranes, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
  • Michael Kolber – Equity Partner / Manatt Health / New York
    Kolber represents and advises health insurers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, health care providers, state and federal agencies, technology vendors, and others on implementation of health coverage issues, especially the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid managed care, value-based purchasing, and employee benefits. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Amalya L. Kearse of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
  • Thomas Michael – Equity Partner / Manatt Digital and Technology: Venture Capital/Emerging Companies / Los Angeles
    Michael represents founding entrepreneurs and venture-backed companies at every phase of their life cycle. Having represented companies in over $1 billion of venture capital financing transactions, his practice focuses on venture capital and private equity growth stage financings as well as mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions. Michael received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
  • Brandon Reilly – Equity Partner / Manatt Digital and Technology: Privacy and Data Security / Orange County
    Reilly is a trusted go-to adviser on privacy and data security issues for a sophisticated client base, including consulting, counseling, regulatory enforcement and litigation. He is skilled at developing business-focused privacy and security frameworks aimed at mitigating future enforcement and litigation risk. Reilly’s practice includes a wide array of consumer protection and privacy matters, including data privacy, security compliance and procedures, and data breach responses. He received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
  • Randi Seigel – Equity Partner / Manatt Health / New York
    Seigel’s practice focuses on advising health systems, long-term and post-acute care providers, physician practices, national and regional Medicare and Medicaid Advantage plans, health care startups, and other health care stakeholders. She provides legal and strategic guidance across a variety of critical areas, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and state privacy laws, corporate practice of medicine, Medicare and Medicaid conditions of participation and billing, fraud and abuse, and compliance program requirements. Seigel received her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
  • Matthew Williamson – Equity Partner / Manatt Energy and Environmental / Orange County
    Williamson is an environmental lawyer who regularly advises clients on matters relating to complex permitting and enforcement matters and all other aspects of compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations. He represents clients in litigation, administrative proceedings and enforcement actions, including on matters involving hazardous waste, water, clean air, FIFRA/pesticides, Prop 65 and natural resources, among others. Williamson received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law.
  • Sophia Yen – Equity Partner / Manatt Entertainment / Los Angeles
    Yen represents clients in a variety of commercial sectors, counseling both lenders and borrowers in debt financing transactions. She also advises entertainment industry clients on debt and equity finance deals as well as other transactional matters. She received her J.D. from the Boston University School of Law.
  • Brandon Young – Equity Partner / Manatt Cross-Industry Group: Government and Regulatory / Los Angeles
    Young’s practice focuses on representing clients in all phases of public and private procurement, including local, state and federal government contracts. He also has experience with commercial contracts involving bridges, tunnels, rail transit, nuclear remediation, information technology and various government service providers. He received his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.

    Augenstein provides strategic business advice, policy design and analysis as well as project management to health care providers, health tech companies, state and local governments, foundations, and other health care organizations. His primary areas of focus are advising private- and public-sector clients on health technology, telehealth, care model design and transformation, population health, federal and state health policy trends, and provider markets. Augenstein received his M.P.H. in health policy and management and his M.A. in international and development economics from Yale University.
  • Megan Ingraham – Managing Director / Manatt Health / San Francisco
    Ingraham advises health care leaders on priority issues related to their strategic direction, organizational transformation and the ever-evolving policy landscape. She works with large health systems, health plans, state and local governments, and foundations. Ingraham received her M.P.H. and M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Public Health and Haas School of Business, respectively.
  • Sarah Moses – Partner / Manatt Entertainment / Los Angeles
    Moses focuses her practice on a variety of complex litigation and commercial disputes. A significant portion of her practice is dedicated to white collar criminal defense work, representing high-net-worth individuals, politicians and companies in government investigations and prosecutions, and guiding companies through internal investigations. Moses received her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law.
  • Julian Polaris – Partner / Manatt Health / New York
    Polaris works with states, providers, health plans and life science companies to understand and respond to health policy changes at the federal and state levels. He advises on the design and implementation of innovative reforms to health coverage, care delivery and reimbursement, as well as issues concerning provider licensure, certification and scope of practice. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan L. Carney of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as well as to the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
  • Tara Shabahang – Partner / Manatt Real Estate / San Francisco
    Shabahang’s practice focuses on real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, development, joint ventures, leasing, financing and construction. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law.
  • Edith Coakley Stowe – Managing Director / Manatt Health / Washington, D.C.
    Coakley Stowe guides health systems in designing, developing and implementing innovative delivery models to improve the management and provision of health care. She focuses on providing project management leadership, clinical process design, quantitative analysis and health reform strategic consulting. Coakley Stowe received her M.P.A. from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
  • Kier Wallis – Managing Director / Manatt Health / San Francisco
    Wallis helps private and public clients navigate the rapidly evolving health care landscape. Using her knowledge of delivery system and payment reform, coverage and access, and health information technology and exchange, she assists clients in program development and implementation. She received her B.A. in communication and law and society from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
  • Jessica Wood – Partner / Manatt Digital and Technology: Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement / Los Angeles
    Wood focuses her practice on intellectual property transactions, including domestic and foreign trademark prosecution, maintenance and enforcement, copyright registration and content protection, licensing and transfers of rights, domain name proceedings, ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and litigation in U.S. Federal District Courts. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
